Why come

Croatia abounds in beauty, but even in a country of such exceptional natural and cultural diversity, some places are unique. The Neretva River Valley is one of them.

The power of the Neretva has carved out the only river delta in Croatia, and together with centuries of work by human hands it has created a landscape of contrasts. Surrounded on three sides by white limestone hills, this fertile green plain, criss-crossed by countless canals, is a true natural mosaic that can be endlessly discovered and enjoyed in many ways.

Whether you seek a sporting challenge, recreational enjoyment or an easy, interesting day outdoors, the Neretva Valley, true to its slogan, offers a diversity of experiences in a small area. Lose yourself in the endless mandarin plantations, work up a sweat on climbs overlooking “Croatia’s California”, or set off on a multi-day exploration not only of cycling, but also of the rich and interesting history, culture and local cuisine of the region.

The Neretva flows through the heart of this region, giving it its name and shaping its unique landscape, yet only a small part of its course runs through it. The river rises across the border, in eastern Herzegovina, and after Mostar and Čapljina enters Croatia at Metković, where its final twenty or so kilometres form the only delta in this part of Europe before it finally reaches the Adriatic Sea.
