Safety and responsibility
Our routes cross mountains, canyons and open karst. The data helps you plan, but the judgement on the ground is always yours.
Judge your own ability
Every route has a physical and a technical difficulty from 1 to 5. Physical covers fitness and climbing, technical covers surface and handling skill. A route rated technical 4 is not for beginners regardless of its length.
Weather and the bura wind
On mountain routes the temperature difference between coast and summit can reach 15 °C. The bura can be dangerous on exposed passes and bridges. Check the forecast for the summit, not the trailhead, and turn back without hesitation if the weather changes.
Equipment
Helmet, enough water, spare inner tube and tools, sun protection and an extra layer for the descent. On some routes there is no water source or shop, and mobile coverage is patchy.
Navigation helps, it does not decide
A GPX track and start navigation help with orientation, but they do not know the current state of the road, the traffic or closed sections. Follow the road signs and the actual conditions, not the device.
In an emergency
The single emergency number is 112. For mountain accidents ask for the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service. Before setting off, tell someone which route you are riding and when you plan to return.
Responsibility
You use the routes at your own risk. Active Croatia is not liable for accidents, damage or loss arising from the use of data on this portal.
