About the route
The Neretva divides its valley roughly in half. Each half has natural beauty and cycling challenges different enough that, although this is one #1valley, they offer different experiences.
This circular road route explores, broadly speaking, the northern half of the valley, and the best place to start is Kula Norinska, known for its large, well-preserved defensive tower from Ottoman times.
Right at the start a climb towards Desne awaits, but your effort will be rewarded with several more than spectacular viewpoints overlooking “Croatia’s California”.
After Desne the route continues towards Ploče, then past the Baćina Lakes and Peračko Blato climbs up to the Polje Jezero field. That is not the end of the climbing: the last ascent leads towards Mali Prolog, after which a gentle descent takes you back to the start at Kula Norinska.
Along the route
There are three longer climbs on the route, and they are worth the effort, as each is followed by a fantastic view over the Neretva Valley and the Polje Jezero field.
