About the route

This circular route around the Baćina Lakes is ideal for those to whom an inspiring outing in beautiful nature matters more than a serious bike ride.

This short and sweet trekking route takes you around the Baćina Lakes near Ploče, a unique natural phenomenon.

There are no cycling challenges, but plenty of other pleasures: from a visit to the birdwatching hide and kayak hire to swimming and other attractions, ideal for a day out with family and friends or a rest day from real cycling challenges.

Along the route

—

Water from the Matica River, which flows through the beautiful Polje Jezero field from Vrgorac in the Dalmatian hinterland towards Ploče, drains into the Baćina Lakes through a specially dug tunnel.

—

Polje Jezero was once a real lake, drained to create fertile farmland in the otherwise barren karst landscape; today it is known as Croatia’s largest wine-growing area.
