About the route
The place where the mystical Mura flows into the wild Drava, the “European Amazon”, is one of the most beautiful natural sites in this part of Croatia. The protected, unspoilt area near the village of Legrad is the natural goal of an exciting circular bike ride.
From the centre of Koprivnica the route leads through a string of picturesque Podravina villages, both on the way out and on the way back. It is not technically demanding but it is fairly long, although, given the minimal total height gain, that should not be a problem even for occasional riders. There are also plenty of places to stop for a rest and refreshments.
Legrad, which lies close to the confluence of the Mura and the Drava, once stood on the left bank of the Drava – in Međimurje. But the Drava had other plans and changed its course, “moving” the village into Podravina. The Veliki Pažut zoological reserve, on the other hand, belongs to Koprivnica-Križevci County but lies geographically in Međimurje.

Tips and safety
Always wear a helmet. Bring enough food and water. Take particular care on sections of the routes that use tarmac roads, especially where there is no cycle lane. Don't forget extra clothing in case of bad weather or a drop in temperature. Avoid riding at night; if you do ride in the dark, always switch on your lights and wear a reflective vest or clothing. Assess your own fitness carefully and don't take on an effort you are not sure you can manage. Check that your bike is in good working order before every ride. Use hand signals when turning. Ride in single file on roads. Obey the traffic rules.
