The meeting of two “wild” rivers in the Veliki Pažut special zoological reserve, part of one of the last unspoilt lowland river systems in Europe.
In this part of Croatia the Drava and the Mura form one of the last unspoilt lowland river systems in Europe. Since two “wild” rivers meet here, the nature around their confluence is just as wild, unspoilt and unpredictable. The river has redrawn borders here too: until the early 18th century, when the Drava suddenly changed course, Legrad lay in Međimurje.
The wider confluence area is protected as the Veliki Pažut special zoological reserve. Its densely wooded banks and mysterious side channels of the Mura and the Drava are an experience not to be missed. The confluence lies on segment 001, between junctions 1 and 2.
