One of the oldest settlements in Croatia, set where the last foothills of the Kalnik range descend into the Podravina plain.
Ludbreg is one of the oldest settlements in Croatia, full of rich history, culture and legends. The best known says that this small Podravina town is the origin of the “earthly circles” on whose rims the world's great cities were built, which makes it, in effect, the centre of the world. Old Ludbreg is also home to one of Croatia's oldest shrines, and the town's cultural and historic tradition underpins its identity today, full of curiosities, sights, events and excellent food.
The town lies where the outliers of the Kalnik range meet the gentle Podravina plain. Wooded hills, colourful plains and the Bednja and Plitvica rivers, which flow into the Drava near Ludbreg, create a varied landscape that is wonderful for time outdoors. Its location makes Ludbreg easy to reach from almost anywhere inland, and excellent motorway, rail and main-road connections make it a perfect destination for an outdoor day trip or weekend.
