Sinj's religious heritage is of great spiritual and artistic value. At its heart is the Shrine of the Miraculous Our Lady of Sinj with its 18th-century church of the same name, the spiritual focal point of a wide area of Dalmatia.
One of the larger Marian shrines in Croatia, it has always played an important part in the life of the people of Sinj, and a particularly important role in their victory over the Ottomans in 1715, which is still commemorated by the Sinjska alka. Visiting the town during the grand celebration of the Assumption on 15 August, which is also Sinj Town Day, is a special experience.
