Hlebine
The Podravina village where the Hlebine school of naïve art was born, one of Croatia's most valuable cultural phenomena.
The Podravina village of Hlebine is the birthplace of one of Croatia's most valuable cultural and artistic phenomena – the Hlebine school of naïve art. The landscapes of Podravina, their colours and contrasts, its villages and the faces of its people inspired the Hlebine painters, and by exploring this part of Croatia by bike you can get closer to them and experience, in direct contact with nature, the landscapes they immortalised in their work.
The miracle of the Hlebine school began in the early 1930s with the appearance of three names on the art scene: Krsto Hegedušić, Ivan Generalić and Franjo Mraz. Their works travelled to many countries and achieved great success around the world.
