Grebengrad Fort

One of the largest medieval forts in this part of Croatia, at 490 metres above sea level on the southern slopes of Ivanščica.

Grebengrad, set at 490 metres above sea level on one of the southern slopes of Ivanščica, is one of the largest medieval forts in this part of Croatia, a region rich in forts and castles.

The fort, which is continually being restored and rescued from the ravages of time, was first mentioned as early as 1209. Below it stands a mountain hut whose popularity comes from its handy position: thanks to its closeness to Novi Marof and easy access, Grebengrad is a favourite day-trip destination.
