Đurđevac
A historic town known for its Old Town fortress, the “Croatian Sahara” and a small zoo whose stars are camels.
The historic town of Đurđevac is known for several things. First of all, it is home to the famous fortress that was the scene of a legendary failed Ottoman siege. Next, right next to Đurđevac lies the “Croatian Sahara”, the Đurđevac sands (Đurđevečki peski), a protected geographical phenomenon. And finally, beside Đurđevac's Old Town there is a real little zoo whose main attraction is – camels!
Because of its distance from the centre of Koprivnica, Đurđevac is within reach by bike for more experienced cyclists (which you can happily ignore if you ride an e-bike), but its attractions are more than enough reward for the effort.
