Bela I and Bela II

The countryside around Novi Marof teems with the remains of medieval forts, so many that three castles bear very similar names.

Bela I was built below Pusta Bela at the beginning of the 17th century, and after the fort passed into the hands of the Erdödy family, they built another castle in its park, known as Bela II. Besides its historical importance, the whole Bela complex is an interesting showcase of different styles of fortified building, and the beautiful nature around it completes the picture and adds to its charm.
