Upstream the Drava is regulated and “shackled” by a series of hydropower plants and reservoirs, but from the Mura confluence all the way to the Danube it is completely wild. In Podravina it returns to its natural course and almost jungle-like banks, and it is this wildness, another word for being unspoilt, that has earned it the nickname European Amazon.
